our process
site visits
Most projects begin with an inquiry by either a new client or a local builder we have an established relationship with. During an initial site visit, we explore the property and begin to learn the client’s project objectives. This gives us an opportunity to make first-hand observations about the property’s unique characteristics (topography, existing plants, aspect, etc.)
preliminary design & budget
After we understand the client’s goals and the physical opportunities and constraints offered by the property, we create preliminary designs, which may take form through a mapping of conceptual routes of a proposed trail or hand sketches of a landscape. At this time, we also begin to develop a project budget.
final project design & budget completion
During final design, as many details as possible are discussed and agreed upon with the client. Deliverables might include Google Earth maps, shape files, watercolors, and/or digital design drawings. Through clear understanding of client expectations and project needs, we develop and then present accurate budgets.
project implementation
Once designs and budgets are finalized, it’s time for action! We typically act as general contractor, but we may also serve as the client’s representative or project manager. Whether it’s forest management, landscape construction, or trail design/build, our attention to detail and commitment to successful outcomes drives every single project.
partnership & membership
We source many of the trees, shrubs, and perennials planted for our projects from our own nursery, Center for Native Plants. We also work with a wide variety of other nurseries, stone and gravel companies, wood suppliers, architects, engineers, builders, and local artisans.
